City Council to Consider Special Use Permit to Build in Historic Alleys

This evening, City Council will hear a Richmond 300 Guide for Growth proposed Special Use Permit to allow building housing in alley and greenspaces in the Museum District.  This is a test case that could establish a precedence city-wide. The Museum District Association Board voted 13-1 in opposition to this proposed plan.

Historic neighborhoods rely on alleys and central greenspaces for garages, parking, trash collection, to garden, and to build connections among neighbors.  MDA neighbors also question ownership of those spaces, those 15 feet or so outside of your back gate, which were never intended for residences.

If this issue and proposed SUP are of interest to you, please visit the following link for SUP 2021-325, the proposed project at 3415A Floyd Avenue, which would wedge residences with no street frontage into the alley of a dense block.
